Spain's Meteorological Summer Begins with Record Heat and Storm Warnings

Heatwave in Spain June 2025

Spain has entered the meteorological summer with a surge of extreme temperatures and storms. On June 1, 2025, temperatures soared to 40°C in Andalusian provinces such as Jaén, Córdoba, and Seville. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued yellow alerts for heat in regions including Huesca, Zaragoza, and Badajoz. Additionally, storms accompanied by heavy rain, hail, and strong winds have affected areas like Aragón, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, and Madrid.

“This early heatwave is a clear indication of the changing climate patterns we are experiencing,” said a spokesperson from AEMET.

The heatwave is expected to persist over the next three months, particularly impacting the Mediterranean regions and the archipelagos. However, a shift in weather patterns is anticipated starting Monday, June 2, due to an Atlantic trough, which may bring cooler temperatures and rainfall to the northern parts of the country. Despite this, Galicia and the Pyrenees might still experience temperature spikes.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and stay informed through official weather updates. The combination of high temperatures and sudden storms poses risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
